Here is one of many things that I think is really great about where we live. The wildlife. Often I take it for granted because I seem fairly used to the exotic bird calls and the amazingly coloured butterflies but as we were gardening today Maarten discovered this caterpillar. It is beautiful, poisonous but not deadly, and one of the largest caterpillars I have ever seen. Click on the image to see a larger, more detailed version of this photo.

No doubt this is a "Very Hungry Caterpillar"!

Hope he didn't take a bite out of any of you.

How do you manage to garden in that heat?!

Actually, the heat is very difficult to work in at the moment. We are all fairly exhausted except one Brazilian guy from a region called Bahia, where it is hot all year round. He is managing to work hard throughout the day. The rest of us do a little then temporarily collapse. It seems to be affecting Beckie more than anyone else as she is particularly tired, but also there may be other combinations which add to the exhaustion like being around a lot of portuguese again and having a different diet etc.
